I'm John — the cyclist behind BikeTourFrance.net. I started this to help fellow riders plan great cycling tours in France.
Planning a self-guided cycling tour can get complicated quickly. Where to ride, how far to go each day, where you'll eat lunch, where you'll sleep, how trains fit into the plan, and when to schedule sightseeing all interact. Route design, timing, lodging, food, and logistics are tightly connected, and small decisions early in the plan can ripple through the entire trip.
Over the years I've planned and ridden multiple self-planned, self-guided cycling tours across France, learning through experience what works and what tends to cause problems later in the day, or later in the trip.
Outside of touring, I lead rides for Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle, work in enterprise technology, and hold DELF B2 certification in French. I'm not a camper — I prefer a good route, a real bed, a warm shower, and a solid meal at the end of the day.
BikeTourFrance.net is where I share what I've learned with other riders who want to make their own French cycling tour happen. I don't charge for guidance. Tips are never expected, but always appreciated.
